The charming bakehouse that was built around 1850 served mainly as a bakery for fresh bread. Grain, such as wheat or rye, was first ground and sieved in the mill. Then the flour was kneaded together with yeast and milk into dough. Given the large quantities, manual kneading was often too labor-intensive, so it was often done with the feet. During this entire process, the oven was fired. As soon as the stones on the inside of the oven were piping hot, it was a sign that the oven was ready to bake the bread.

In the atmospheric street called ‘het Bokt’ there are several old farms, of which numbers 8, 15, 18, 19 and 20 are included in the municipal monument list.

As you walk along the Bokt, you will see that many of these historic farms have now been renovated, preserving their character. On the right side of the road stretches the beautiful nature reserve the Boktse Beemden, with an area of 40 hectares, framed by the picturesque catchment area of the Dommel. Consider a return for a relaxing stroll through this natural jewel and cross the footbridge to enchanting Nederwetten and relax on a terrace before walking back.
