The bridge over the Wilhelmina Canal is part of the 14-kilometre-long ‘Green Corridor’, a green connection that connects the centre of Eindhoven with the historic market in Oirschot and the national landscape of Het Groene Woud. This route is intended to offer more greenery, experience and recreational opportunities between Eindhoven and Oirschot, and shows the beauty of North Brabant. <\/p>\n
The bicycle bridge is made of wood and rests on two brick pillars on either side of the bank. From the middle of the bridge you can enjoy a beautiful view of St . Peter’s Basilica<\/strong>, located in the center of Oirschot on the Markt. To reach the bridge, two slowly rising cycle paths have been created, which lead to the steel approach bridges. The bridge railings have a rust-colored coating that is beautifully illuminated at night, giving the bridge a mesmerizing sight. <\/p>\n The history of the bridge goes back to the Second World War, when Oirschot and the area around the Wilhelmina Canal were the scene of fierce fighting. The bridge is named after two soldiers who died during German shelling in 1944: Rinus St\u00f6nner and Willem Meijwaard, who fought for the freedom of the Netherlands with the Princess Irene Brigade. <\/p>\n We recommend viewing the bridge after dark for an even more impressive view, but it is also an absolute must-see during your stay in the region during the day.<\/p>\n
