This building, which now houses Het Koffiehuisje, served as a shop for the Cooperative Consumption Association, where Philips staff could do their shopping at affordable prices.<\/p>\n
Anton Philips founded this cooperative in 1918 with a network of grocery and drugstore stores, butchers, a bread factory and petrol pumps. Anton was annoyed by the reaction of the Eindhoven shopkeepers to a wage increase for the Philips staff. Then they immediately raised the prices of the basic necessities. By becoming a member of the new cooperative, the staff was able to buy at reasonable prices. This building on the corner of Frederiklaan and De Jonghlaan had already been set up as a dairy shop and this is where the cooperative’s first grocery store was established. <\/p>\n
Nowadays, people from outside the neighborhood also find their way to the Coffee House. For delicious bread, coffee and much more goodies. To meet up with friends, for a work meeting or a cozy get-together with family. <\/p>\n
