Since three years we rent out Knaap E-Fatbikes in Eindhoven. After 28 years as a travel agent selling trips (and excursions) to all parts of the world, we wanted to show tourists how beautiful our region is. And what better way to do that than in a typically Dutch way in the form of a bicycle? Not just any bicycle, but an electric, tough and urban bicycle that suits the city of Eindhoven. What started in 2021 with the careful testing of 4 E-Fatbikes grew in three years to a busy intention with 15 E-Fatbikes.
An E-Fatbike is a bike with a thick frame, matching wide tires and a saddle you can sit on with two people. You do not need to be in any condition because just slow motion spinning around with your feet is enough to go 25 km per hour, there is no resistance while pedaling which makes you not get tired and you can ride a 50 km route with ease.
What we did not realize then, because we are so used to it, is that we have an extremely good bicycle infrastructure in Eindhoven and its surroundings. Almost everywhere there are safe wide bike paths separate from the lanes for cars. Beautiful routes right through the beautiful green forests, along canals or right through the city where it is better to cycle than drive a car these days. The municipality and province are now doing everything they can to discourage the use of cars and promote the use of bicycles. Not for nothing are the most iconic bicycle facilities in our area such as, for example, the Hovenring, the Tegenbosch bridge and the Stönner-Meijwaard bridge.
We offer various individual tours with these sturdy means of transportation including a tour of Eindhoven and its surroundings and a nature and villages tour. We also offer thematic tours such as a Van Gogh tour, Philips Heritage tour and a Picnic or lunch tour.
During each tour you navigate using our self-developed system ‘tourke’ in which we describe each stop, give tips and provide a navigation link on how to get there. Did you know that we offer these tours not only in our own area? By now there is a tour in the province of Brabant, Zeeland but also abroad in Valencia, Aruba and Curacao.
How wonderful is it to be able to let your clients experience a great day on an E-Fatbike over and over again? How nice is it to get nothing but five-star reviews for the E-Fatbike tours, to see people leave with a smile and come back the same way hours later? 😍
Our 2023 season is over and it’s a great time to look back on the third year of E-Fatbike rental at City Tours Eindhoven.
Whereas during covid the customers came mainly from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, now they also come from other European countries but also from various other continents. So one day you are talking to customers from Belgium, South Africa, Honduras, Australia and America and after the tour you hear enthusiastic stories about what they have seen and how much they liked the E-Fatbikes.
We are looking forward to the next season (March 2024🙌) where we will make some minor improvements that we learned last season.
