Heeze Castle is one of the few inhabited castles in the Netherlands and is located in the picturesque village of Heeze, located southeast of Eindhoven. The castle consists of two parts: a medieval castle and another part that was built in 1665 by the well-known architect Pieter Post, known for the design of the meeting room of the Senate, among other things.
Until 1648, the castle was in the hands of the Duke of Brabant, after which it became the property of the States General of the United Provinces. In 1658, after the lack of a successor, the castle was sold to a new owner who had plans to completely rebuild the dilapidated castle into a larger structure. Although architect Pieter Post was commissioned to rebuild the castle, the plans were never carried out as intended. The result was only a front building. Throughout history, the castle has been inhabited by several prominent people, including counsellor Paul Henri Thiry d’Holbach, advisor to King Louis XV.
In 1760, the castle was bought by Jan Maximiliaan van Tuyll and to this day it remains in the hands of the Van Tuyll family. Heeze Castle offers guided tours, allowing visitors to admire the splendor of this historic monument. For more information and opening hours, please visit the official website of Heeze Castle. Combine your visit with a leisurely walk through the Strabrechtse Heide, the entrance to which is also located in Heeze.
