At Strijp-R, once a bustling Philips factory site, designer Piet Hein Eek has left his mark. Since 2010, the site has housed his studio, gallery, factory, restaurants and later even its own hotel. With historic land as a basis, original new construction and restored industrial buildings such as the pump building are seamlessly combined.
Although Philips left, the old factory buildings remained, so that the industrial charm was preserved. Piet Hein Eek’s building, built in the 50s, covers an impressive 11,000 m². From shop to showroom, gallery and studios, it offers a variety of activities.
Piet Hein Eek, known for his ‘Classic Cabinet in Scrap Wood’, has expanded his range with vases, lamps and furniture, even for Ikea. His vision of “Mass products that don’t feel like mass products” remains the leitmotif.
In recognition of his contribution to design, he received the Design Prize from the Culture Fund of North Brabant in 2017. Piet Hein Eek saw the potential of Strijp-R and made the former Philips ceramic workshop his creative home base, known as the RK complex.
