Park Meerland, located in the heart of Meerhoven, is the green jewel of this young neighborhood in Eindhoven. Once a military airbase called ‘Welschap’, now a vast park that blends harmoniously with the surroundings of Eindhoven Airport.
This park has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Dirk Roosenburg architecture and public award. With an expanse of no less than 60 hectares, which is equivalent to about 100 football fields, Park Meerland offers a beautiful oasis in English landscape style. Here you will find rolling hills, wide lawns, winding waterways, and serene woodlands, which seamlessly connect five districts of Meerhoven: Zandrijk, Bosrijk, Grasrijk, Waterrijk and Meerrijk.
The park is divided into three areas, two of which are inhabited by grazing cows, adding a charming scene to the surroundings. The third part is a playground, where residents organize various activities, making the park a vibrant center of community life. In addition to the lush vegetation, Park Meerland also offers a rich fauna, with regular sightings of storks, sand martins, and even endangered bird species that make their home in this nature reserve.
A visit to this special park is an absolute must if you are in the area. And while you’re in the area, a stop at the former airport building across the street from the park is well worth it. Here you will find Echt Welschap, a cozy restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious culinary experience amidst historic charm.
A new location in the park is the beautiful spot called Mrs Park. Here you can enjoy the view and a nice snack and drink on just water.
